This last one is by my mom and she also snuck herself in the drawing next to him.

My Frankfurt apartment is slowly getting furnished

 

 

 

Furnishing an apartment takes 2 months more in Germany, as furnitures are built as of when the order is put in. But the apartment is slowly taking shape now. For antique furnitures, below are useful auction websites for purchasing old European furnitures (and sometimes Chanel stuff), but just be aware of the transfer bit to reach your home. As one can imagine, many are shipped out of Denmark.

Unsweetened oatmeal cookies

I made oatmeal cookies with drastically less sugar (for regular people, you can double or tripple the sugar and honey). Yum.

Ingredients: 80g oatmeals, 60g regular flour, 40g bread flour, 80g butter, 20g sugar, 10g honey, 1 egg, 1/2 tea spoon baking powder, 1 tea spoon each of cinnamon and cardamon, some walnuts.

Steps: 1) Mix the butter and sugar and honey until creamy, then add the egg. 2) In a separate bowl, mix the flour ingredients. 3) Add 2) to 1), then add oatmeals, cinnamon, cardamon, and walnuts. 4) Drop the dough on a cooking pan and press down with a fork into 5mm thickness. 5) Bake in 180 degrees oven for 17 minutes.

Knitting again

As a winter ritual, I have started knitting a scarf again. This time, I am knitting in a new way that I hope resembles moss stitch... although I'm not sure if I'm doing it entirely correctly. In anycase, I very much look forward to the end product!

As much as I love the look of this place, the main feature is the view. Only in Hong Kong...

I'm knitting again. This time I used two strands of mohair and thicker sticks which I picked up in Sweden ... and now it's done!!

My portrait

This is one of my favorite portraits of me drawn by my sister when we were in Hawaii. She usually exaggerates my eyes that are wide apart, but this time she decided to just make my legs and arms African for my ultra tan, which I really like. The baby one piece I am wearing was a towel textured Forever 21 thing that was really comfortable and that I wore everyday back then. I don't remember wearing blue heels but maybe I did...

My loop scarf is done

I finished knitting my loop scarf today. I had to call it finished, because I ran out of yarn. But I think it's a nice neck warmer length, and super warm. It should keep me warm for the remaining few minutes of winter in HK!

Continuing to knit...

I'm finished with one yarn (quite contently), and I'm only up to the width of half my neck... I wonder how it will become a loop scarf with one more yarn? Maybe it will end up a neck warmer after all. Anybody up for making a quick run to the basement of a department store in Oslo (for an extra yarn)?

Norwegian knitting, I wish

I bought a beginner's knitting book in Japan to make use of my Norwegian yarn. I haven't knitted since elementary school, so at first it was like figuring out a model in excel. I hope this will eventually turn into a loop scarf...

My new year's resolution

My new year's resolution is starting to take form.

1. Buy nice things - purchase a nice stereo, cooking stuff, and others to improve my apartment life
2. Play sports - play tennis, go kick boxing, or do something twice a month
3. Cook - learn new recipes based on cook books

Let's see how I do. To achieve these, I basically need to work less or travel less, which would be nice...

Had I been a coffee drinker, I would've bought this coffee machine in Oslo to satisfy my first part of the resolution. Too bad that I don't.

Yarns to knit

I bought these super Nordic yarns in Oslo. I look forward to knitting a nice loop scarf (that connects the ends) once I buy a book and sticks (needles) :)

My apartment in DC

Today, I officially parted with my stuff in the U.S. by selling off my last piece of furniture (thanks to a dear friend!), and somehow it feels like a new beginning. It's been 2.5 years since I left for Asia but kept everything in storage thinking that I would be back shortly. But 3 months turned into years, and now it looks like I will be in Hong Kong for a while.

In memory of my old room, I present here my apartment from DC...

I started this painting a few months ago and put it away until yesterday, when I took it out again and continued on until I signed it just now.

The original is Mary Cassatt's Woman Bathing, which was part of her series of ten color aquatints that she described as "an imitation of Japanese methods" with the flat coloring, diagnals, flat forms, and strong emphasis on pattern and lines.



I picked this, just because I liked the angles and color. But I also wanted to see how a picture that was first based on ukiyoe woodblock prints, interpreted by a western impressionist painter who abandoned oil painting for flat printmaking, would look like, back in acrylics.

Lovely Indonesian skirts

These are skirts I made in Indonesia. I call them gyoza skirts, because the hem at the bottom looks exactly so... The original was made by an Indonesian designer who was my friend Elvi's friend and who happened to live in the same apartment as me. This skirt really makes your legs look magically long(er) and lean(er). The pink one in the middle is the original with Indonesian fabric, and the two others were made with Indian fabric.
