My apartment in DC

mosaicroom

Today, I officially parted with my stuff in the U.S. by selling off my last piece of furniture (thanks to a dear friend!), and somehow it feels like a new beginning. It's been 2.5 years since I left for Asia but kept everything in storage thinking that I would be back shortly. But 3 months turned into years, and now it looks like I will be in Hong Kong for a while.

In memory of my old room, I present here my apartment from DC...

Adour at the St. Regis Hotel in DC

cake2

My freind Catherine and I with a few other girl friends, make it a point to visit expensive restaurants in DC whenever I'm in town. It's always the loveliest occasion, and our choice this time was Alain Ducasse's Adour at the St. Regis Washington.

We ordered the 5-course tasting menu with wine. While the food was nice too, the dessert and the selection of wine that accompanied was really, really incredibly memorable. The dessert with rasberry sorbet and verbena was some light macaroon like thing surrounding the sorbet with a big drop of cream on top. It was so nice I felt like I was in France in the summer!

While this is DC and people have to dress and/or bring their bodyguard to feel important, this is a very relaxing atmosphere. The furnishing is modern but done in a really old school place (the ceiling looked really middle ages). I could imagine there were lots of happy excitement at each table.

New gray suede wedge boots

I swear wedges are the friendliest boots to walk on the cobblestones of DC. I again stupidly brought only high heels to this trip, so I had to run to Georgetown to find myself this pair in order to survive the weeks in DC and NY. I hope I will get a chance to wear this in the tropics too...

Dupont Circle in the morning sunshine

IMG_9308

I am taking the bus from DC to go to NYC for the weekend. Dupont Circle where most of these "luxury" buses (for only $50 round-trip!) take off, looked lovely in the morning sunshine. Apparently we are to have beautiful weather over this weekend. Happy long weekend to everyone in the U.S.!

Back in DC

IMG_9307

It's funny to be back in DC. I thought it would be more depressing with people tightening their wallet. But alas, I went to Georgetown and people are still shopping in frenzy. Americans are bravely supporting their macro economy in the best way they know.

Yesterday and today, I was in Charlottsville for a no-substance work thing. The leaves were starting to turn red and yellow here, and sitting by the lake was breathtaking...
